Encinitas

Photo Tour | Points of Interest

Fondly called the ‘Surf Capitol’ by locals, picturesque coastal Encinitas consists of three diverse communities, Cardiff-by-the-Sea to the south and Leucadia to the north.

The downtown center of coastal ‘Old Encinitas’ sits along Highway 101, primarily between the Self-Realization Fellowship Center and Encinitas Boulevard. A destination spot for over a hundred years, snapshots of the past yet remain in the historic 1928 La Paloma movie theater (still operating) and the 1883 Encinitas School House. A variety of one-of-a-kind boutiques and shops line Hwy 101. Area restaurants offer a diverse selection of fare including Peruvian, Italian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Vegan, Mexican, Thai, Viennese, French, Fusion and Americana. Holistic is the main word here, with plentiful meditation and yoga classes, wellness spas and fitness venues.

Popular Moonlight Beach offers regular summer concerts, picnic tables and fire pits, volleyball and playground, as well as the easiest public beach access. Swami’s, next to the SFR Center, offers expert surfing conditions and gorgeous ocean bluff views all the way to La Jolla.  The Self-Realization Fellowship Center’s Meditation Gardens are open to the public, and provide commanding ocean views amid koi ponds and flora. Area real estate gets pricey in Encinitas, for all but the smallest of bungalows.
