North Ponto Beach

“Ponto Beach (aka: South Carlsbad State Beach) is known for its decent surf break.  It’s a rustic stretch of beach just north of the campground, narrow at higher tides and with plenty of cobblestones.  If the cries of gulls are soothing white noise to you, then stop by.  I’ll strike up a tune while you doze on the beach.”    Sandbag C. Gull

With limited amenities, this location is usually less favorable than the other nearby beach areas of south Carlsbad.  At it’s north end, you can walk out onto the beach.  At the south end of the parking lot, it’s sometimes easiest to walk a bit further along the highway and take advantage of the gate at the north end of the campground, where wooden stairs lead down to the beach level.
